Musician, visual artist, and founding member of Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon will appear in Berlin to support her second solo LP 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, brilliantly current in its grinding approximation of capitalist horrors, ransacking of social media bleakness, and playful evisceration of toxic masculinity. Released by Matador, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 pulses with damaged, blown out dub and trap constructions playing the foil to Gordon’s intuitive word collages and hooky mantras that conjure communication, commercial sublimation and sensory overload.
Opening for Gordon is Gudrun Gut, the German subcultural icon who rose to prominence in ‘80s Berlin as part of Mania D, Matador, Malaria!, and Einstürzende Neubauten. As a key figure in Berlin’s underground and longtime colleague and friend of Gordon’s, Gut still casts an aura of mechanized rhythms and frozen emotional palettes, but decades of improvisation and collaboration have deepened her sense of composition and melody beyond easy genre categorization.
