About this Event
Come join us for a fun-filled day of cycling at Ganavan Sands for our Kids Bike Event on Sunday 18th August 2023! Whether your child is a beginner or a pro, there will be trails for everyone to enjoy - all thanks to the North Argyll Trail Association's work on the trail network at Ganavan!
The event will be based in the field next to the shinty pitch at Ganavan Sands. And seeing as it's a cycling event, we reckon it's a good idea to arrive by bike as much as possible - helpful way to avoid any difficulties with parking too.
Kids will be able to register from 10am on the day to pick up their rider number and confirm which course they'd like to be timed on. It's important that the kids have had a chance to try the trails, so make sure you either...
- Go and explore ahead of the event! - routes will be released on our socials and via email a month beforehand.
- Turn up early to have time before the event begins.
- On the Saturday of the Big Bike Weekend we have organised some led rides to help build confidence, meet friends and ride together on the trails (see event details and book on our Eventbrite homepage).
Make sure you're back at the event base for 11am when the event starts.
Please book a space for each individual child. The minimum age for entry is 5, however, the youngers ones will have plenty to do on our open balance bike/skills course which will be open all day.
Registrations close on the 2nd August, however, if you miss this deadline then please let us know. If the event sells out, make sure you join the waiting list!
Entry is by donation - please pay as much or as little as you can. Unlike previous years, we have not received funding from Event Scotland and have therefore had to scale the event accordingly. We are really greatful to the Oban Sportive who continue to support us, however as a small charity we would appreciate the help we can get to get as many kids out and enjoying time on their bikes this summer!
There will be 2 bike courses:
- a Blue Course for Juniors/Improvers (for all ages) - kids will need a basic level of off-road biking ability. This can be gained during the led rides on the Saturday of the Big Bike Weekend (see event details and book on our Eventbrite homepage).
- a Black Course for confident riders (suggested age 10 years +) - this course will have some jumps and steep down hills.
Bike safety checks will be performed by our wonderful volunteers and by registering you agree that your child will be wearing a proper helmet.
