[DEUTSCH UNTEN]The Shtetl Berlin Grassroots Festival closes with an extraordinary meeting of two of the klezmer world's most beloved chamber duos. From Berlin, Khupe; from Buenos Aires, the Lerner Moguilevsky Duo. Two duos, two continents, one deeply shared musical language — and one unmissable evening of intimate, virtuosic instrumental klezmer. Following the concert, everyone is invited to bring their instruments and join our traditional Sunday closing jam session, with Eastern European-inspired cocktails and the warm chaos that always marks the end of a Shtetl Berlin festival.
Khupe — clarinetist Christian Dawid and accordionist Sanne Möricke — are among the pioneers of Berlin's klezmer scene, performing together since the mid-1990s. Their music is rooted in the Jewish instrumental tradition of Eastern Europe, but shaped by decades of deep listening, research, and an improvisational sensibility that makes every performance feel alive and in the moment. Khupe is an artistic dialogue of extraordinary intensity — restrained and precise, but capable of catching fire.
Lerner Moguilevsky Duo — César Lerner on piano and Marcelo Moguilevsky on clarinets and flute — are among South America's most celebrated practitioners of klezmer and improvised music, with a four-decade career that has taken them from the concert halls of Buenos Aires to stages across Europe, the Americas, and beyond. Their music moves fluidly between klezmer, tango, Sephardic song, and free improvisation, holding all of it together with an ease and warmth that speaks to their decades of artistic partnership.

Das Shtetl Berlin Grassroots Festival schließt mit einer außergewöhnlichen Begegnung zweier der beliebtesten Kammerduos der Klezmer-Welt. Aus Berlin Khupe, aus Buenos Aires das Lerner-Moguilevsky-Duo. Zwei Duos, zwei Kontinente, eine tief verwurzelte gemeinsame musikalische Sprache — und ein unvergesslicher Abend intimen, virtuosen Instrumentalklezmers. Im Anschluss an das Konzert laden wir alle ein, Instrumente mitzubringen und beim traditionellen Abschluss-Jam mitzuspielen, mit osteuropäisch inspirierten Cocktails und der herzlichen Wärme, die jeden Abschluss eines Shtetl-Berlin-Festivals ausmacht.
Khupe — Klarinettist Christian Dawid und Akkordeonistin Sanne Möricke — gehören zu den Pionieren der Berliner Klezmerszene und spielen seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre zusammen. Ihre Musik wurzelt in der jüdischen Instrumentaltradition Osteuropas, ist aber geprägt von jahrzehntelangem tiefem Zuhören, Forschung und einem improvisatorischen Gespür, das jeden Auftritt lebendig macht.
Lerner Moguilevsky Duo — César Lerner am Klavier und Marcelo Moguilevsky an Klarinetten und Flöte — gehören zu den bedeutendsten Klezmer- und Improvisationsmusikern Südamerikas, mit einer vierzigjährigen Karriere, die sie von den Konzertsälen Buenos Aires auf Bühnen in Europa, Amerika und darüber hinaus geführt hat. Ihre Musik bewegt sich fließend zwischen Klezmer, Tango, sephardischem Lied und freier Improvisation.
