We are proud to present Khadijah for a weekend of Khaleeji culture at Studio Datura & Nomadic Vintage Rugs.Khadijah has been a teacher, dancer, ethnologist of African in origin dances and choreographer for 22 years. She is based in Denver, CO (USA), and is of Kenyan descent born in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). She is known for having unique didactics of Afro-Arabian folklore, music and its cultural aspects.
She is highly sought-after in the Denver community, and has been invited to teach in the USA and abroad. We are so excited to bring her back to Portland for an immersive weekend of Khaleeji music, dance, and culture!
The workshop weekend includes a traditional Khaleeji-style hafla, grounding the intention of the weekend in connecting with Khaleeji culture and each other.
“Khaleeji” refers to the style of dance, culture and music from the Persian Gulf or Arabian Gulf region, the “Khaleej,” including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The dance is largely improvisational, performed by pairs or groups of women for their own entertainment at special celebrations, such as weddings.
