Kernow Queer Press: One-Day Zine-Making Workshop
with artist James Frost
Join us for a friendly, hands-on community workshop where we’ll come together to create and publish a zine in just one day.
This relaxed but high-energy session celebrates queer joy, DIY publishing, and collective creativity. Expect collage, drawing, writing, and playful experimentation — all brought together in a shared publication that everyone contributes to.
No prior experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to make something.
What will happen on the day
Welcome & artist introduction (10 mins):
James will introduce their practice, zine culture, and the idea behind Kernow Queer Press — a space for community-led publishing.
Open making time:
Design your page(s), cut, paste, write, draw, experiment, and chat. You can submit up to 2–3 pages — anything goes.
Print room energy:
As we approach the deadline, we’ll bring everything together, photocopy, fold, and assemble the zine as a group.
Tea & breaks:
Time to rest, refuel, and connect.
The vibe
This workshop runs on a “no submission refused” ethos.
From word searches and horoscopes to poetry, interviews, chaotic collage, or quiet reflections — everything has a place.
Expect a mix of:
- horoscopes
- interviews
- local news
- gardening columns
- word searches & games
- personal stories, art, and collage
We’ll create a temporary print studio together — a space that feels part newsroom, part craft table, part queer social.
Materials & what to bring
All main materials are provided, including paper, collage materials, and printing.
If you have them, feel free to bring:
- Old magazines or images to cut up
- Pens, markers, or favourite tools
- Sharp scissors or a scalpel (some provided)
What you’ll leave with
- New creative skills and ideas
- Connections with other people in the room
- The knowledge that you’ve published something ✨
A digital version of the zine will also be shared after the session.
Age & access
16+ (due to use of craft tools)
This is a community-focused, inclusive workshop creating a welcoming space for queer people and allies.
