As part of the Hidden Beach Summer of Culture, Kawson Secka brings the powerful rhythms, melodies and storytelling of West Africa to The Jenny Lind for a vibrant live performance celebrating heritage, innovation and high-energy musicianship.
A visionary Senegambian musician, composer and bandleader, Kawson Secka draws on the musical traditions of Njawara in The Gambia — blending ancestral rhythms, sabar grooves, Mandinka melodies and the distinctive sound of the xalam with Afro jazz, Afrobeat and contemporary global influences.
Driven by deep percussion, expressive vocals and tight ensemble playing, his live sets are both culturally rooted and electrifyingly current — designed to move audiences through rhythm, energy and connection.
Kawson has performed and collaborated internationally across festival stages, touring projects and cross-cultural ensembles. As founder of Kawson Band and a collaborator with projects such as Fofoulah and Africa Express, he has built a reputation for dynamic performances that bridge tradition and innovation.
Set within the intimate atmosphere of The Jenny Lind, this is a chance to experience live West African and global fusion music up close — an uplifting, rhythm-led evening inviting both deep listening and joyful movement.
The night continues with a DJ set from Remi Vibesman, carrying the energy forward with a selection rooted in global sounds, rhythm and connection.
Food will be available from the Hidden Beach Community Kitchen, adding to a warm, shared cultural experience.
Expect powerful drumming, rich musical textures and a celebratory atmosphere rooted in Senegambian culture.
