Two hip-hop icons, known for their genre-defining releases on Stones Throw Records.-------------------------------------------------------------------------
During this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event we welcome two hip-hop icons. The eccentric drummer Karriem Riggins and turntablist J.Rocc blend live instrumentation and a crate full of records into a hip-hop time capsule.
Karriem Riggins is renowned as both a jazz drummer and hip-hop producer. He has played with artists such as Common, Slum Village, Talib Kweli, and The Roots, yet Riggins doesn’t categorize himself as anything but an artist. In 2012, he turned heads with Alone Together, his instrumental debut album featuring 34 tracks built around one central theme: rhythm. J.Rocc is a turntablist to the core, active behind the decks since the 1980s. In addition to countless mixtapes and releases on Stones Throw, J.Rocc is also the DJ for Madlib’s live shows. Both artists have made undeniable contributions to the world of instrumental hip-hop — and now, they come together to celebrate that legacy. “From turntables to drum kit, and crate to crash, expect an exploration of groove where beat science meets improvisation.”
