Karolína Kubalek and Ruairidh Gray bring together the worlds of classical piano and traditional Gaelic song in a unique and captivating collaboration. Their performances blend Hebridean melodies with Scottish-inspired piano works, creating a rich musical experience that bridges heritage and artistry.
Karolína, an award-winning concert pianist and daughter of renowned Czech pianist Antonin Kubalek, has performed across Europe and beyond. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the Glenn Gould School, she is also the founder of “Music in the Mearns.” Her career includes concerto performances with orchestras in Canada and solo appearances at major festivals, including the Edinburgh International Festival. In April 2025, she made her BBC Radio debut, discussing her curatorial work and her recording of Beethoven’s 32 Variations in C Minor.
Ruairidh, a celebrated Gaelic singer from South Uist, is a multiple award winner, including the prestigious “MG ALBA Gaelic Singer of the Year” title. A graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, he is a regular presence on BBC ALBA and BBC Radio nan Gàidheal. His performances have ranged from village halls in the Hebrides to the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, always delivered with his signature intensity and charm.
The duo made their debut in January 2025 and continue to enchant audiences with their seamless fusion of classical and traditional Scottish music. Their upcoming performance at the Pianodrome marks another milestone in their growing partnership.
