Morphologies of the Xenos is a multidisciplinary investigation that interweaves the practices of Argentinian artists Paz Cortez, Lena Becerra and Candie.
This piece captures both the fluid movements of contortion and the dark, mysterious nature of liquid matter, exploring the duality of an internal metamorphosis that pushes the performers and the space around them.
In this new collaboration, the trio explores the overflow, the tension between what shouldn't be there, the resemblance to bodies that exist within nature, botany, the human and non human, but presented mutated, digested by my imagination to create creatures that speculate on inhabiting other temporalities.
About the artists:
Lena Becerra’s surgically arranged ecosystems summon contemplation of alternative forms of social fabric in the gestational stage, where the sinister and sublime converge as part of a cyclical call for rebirth. Currently, her practice revolves around poetical approaches on a social web, in particular, to the exploration of the sensitive layers of xenofeminism. She creates hybrid organisms where the border between gender, sexuality, technology and nature are not defined, as well as notions around the sublimation of imposed structures.
Paz Contreras is a dancer, performer, and acrobat that strive to create spaces where exploration and expression know no bounds, embracing both triumphs and challenges. Believing that within the discomfort of struggle lies the potential to uncover new dimensions of artistry, she aims to transform obstacles into growth opportunities. For Paz, performing in front of an audience is a sacred exchange, blending artist and observer into a shared human experience. Her goal is to deliver authentic and intense performances that resonate deeply, leaving a lasting impression and inviting the audience to feel a spectrum of emotions and narratives.
Maria de los Milagros Castillo, AKA CANDIE, is a multimedia artist from Argentina currently based in Berlin. Her artistic work is based on the experimentation of different languages, formats, and techniques, focusing on music production, sound design, performance, and visual arts. Her works are generated from discourses such as popular culture, social criticism, introspection, and the technological era that precedes us, seeking the discomfort of the viewer through the use of organic and industrial visceral themes and aesthetics, creating surreal and grotesque dark climates. Her musical aesthetics are defined by the mixture of different genres in her productions, such as cumbia, trance and hardcore, and the use of special effects samples.
Sketches of Emotion is a multidisciplinary performance by Belgian visual artist Karen Hendrickx and Belgian choreographer and dancer Justine Copette.
In this performance, dancer and painter play off of one another, Hendrickx’s abstract paintings spontaneously created in the moment.
The aim of the performance is to explore and gradually blur the line between dance and visual art. Thus, by the end, the audience will no longer know who is the dancer and who is the visual artist.
About the artists:
Justine Copette is a young choreographer and dancer from Belgium. Graduated by a Bachelor in performing arts ( BCDA Hungary) and a Master in management (IHECS Brussels), she ' s currently in the head of her own dance company JC Choreography since 2019. Half time teacher in the sector of Belgian art academy, the rest of her time is dedicated to create and produce dance piece. Freelancer, Justine danced in many shows in Europe.
Karen Hendrickx is a visual artist, painter from Antwerp/Belgium. Since 2017, she has been working on a series combining painting, dance and movement. Emotion is always at the heart of her work, working purely in the energy of the moment. Her gestural way of working is strongly influenced by her collaboration with Justine Copette. For example, she often works with the canvas on the ground, literally using her whole body during the creation process and creating a kind of dance on the canvas. As with the abstract expressionists, the canvas thus becomes more "an arena within which the action takes place". The final work is then the result of what happened in the moment.
