Ah, the long weekend! You can go out on a Sunday and not worry about being tired on Monday! SO - NO REASON not to come to our next splendid Sunday Knees UP! What's more, it's going to be a brilliant afternoon of wise music. We're incredibly fortunate to have with us London's extraordinary Helen McCookerybook and, rather more locally but with equal resplendence, The Woodlice. As always, it's FREE to attend the Knees Up, but please be generous when the hat is passed.
Helen McCookerybook's musical journey started as a bass player in a Brighton punk band in the 1970s. Her band The Chefs and Helen and the Horns were regulars on BBC Radio 1's John Peel show; nowadays Radio London's Gary Crowley and BBC6's Riley and Coe play her new music. The Woodlice play ace folk pop. The band started off as troubadours and then evolved into a skirmishing trio lying somewhere between Violent Femmes and leftfield folk with Jet McDonald on lead vocals and guitar. Simon Van der Linden on Bass and Mark Gonsalves on drums. The album ‘Keep the Light On Baby’ came out 2021 with singles ‘Hovercraft’ and ‘Keep the Light On Baby’(played on Cerys Matthews BBC 6 Music Sunday Show).
