A remarkable trumpeter and vocalist mentored by Wynton Marsalis and renowned for his longtime work with superstar singer Michael Bublé, Jumaane Smith is an artist on a mission.
Reared in Seattle, the budding artist first picked up the trumpet in fifth grade, a move he described as “the one positive thing going on in my life at the time.” A full ride to Julliard cemented Smith’s trajectory as a serious musician, leading to a prominent collaboration with Bublé that has endured for nearly two decades, encompassing five albums and innumerable live performances on the greatest stages around the world.
Beyond his work with Bublé, Smith has amassed a stunning list of recording and performing credits with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, Alicia Keys, Rashied Ali, Theo Croker, and Harry Connick Jr.
The trumpeter released his debut album as a leader with 2014’s I Only Have Eyes for You, a masterful session of standards that features appearances by Bublé, vocal group Naturally 7, and young opera vocalist Jackie Evancho. His 2020 follow-up, When You’re Smiling, further explores the Great American Songbook that evokes the timeless appeal of Louis Armstrong, with sterling takes on “Pennies from Heaven,” “Stars Fell on Alabama,” “A Kiss to Build a Dream On,” and the beloved title track.
