About this Event
Toronto bassist and composer Henry Heillig has been performing jazz and other music for close to fifty years. He is well known as a founding member and musical director for the Juno Award-winning band Manteca. For the past 14 years, he has led his quartet Heillig Manoeuvre, giving energetic voice to his original repertoire. His Song Ladybug Waltz has been in heavy rotation on JazzFM since Jaymz Bee declared it to be a New Standard” back in 2004!
Tania Gill is a Toronto-based pianist and composer whose distinctive improvisational voice has made her a vital presence in Canada’s creative music scene for over two decades. She has performed with ensembles such as the Brodie West Quintet, Rebecca Hennessy’s FOG, See Through Trio, and the Titillators. Her Tania Gill Quartet’s album Bolgar Station was named one of the Globe and Mail’s top ten albums of the year and earned a Village Voice jazz poll nomination! Tania is also an active educator, teaching at Humber College, the University of Toronto, and in her private studio.
Together, Heillig and Gill perform original jazz of a friendly nature that Heillig describes as “more songbook than doctoral thesis”, sprinkled with familiar standards and the occasional pop tune.
