Jazz Outreach Initiative’s acclaimed Jazz Vegas Orchestra (formerly JOI Jazz Orchestra) is honored to welcome legendary drummer and leader of the iconic Diva Jazz Orchestra, Sherrie Maricle as featured guest artist and Musical Director for an exciting evening of big band jazz!
As Musical Director of the concert in a nod to Women’s History Month, Sherrie Maricle has curated an unforgettable set list of music composed/arranged by women. Sherrie Maricle is an award-winning musician, educator, clinician, composer/arranger, guest conductor, and soloist. She is also a frequent guest clinician for Jazz Outreach Initiative’s youth education programs, including its annual Regional Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Festival licensed by Jazz at Lincoln Center.
As leader of the Diva Jazz Orchestra celebrating its 30th year, Sherrie has performed at some of the world’s greatest venues from Lincoln Center and The Kennedy Center to The Hollywood Bowl and jazz festivals across the globe.
Created in late 2020, The Jazz Vegas Orchestra has grown a reputation for its dedication to promoting and performing not only classic big band music, but showcasing local musicians, composers, and arrangers with new and exciting works. Comprised of some of the areas most respected jazz musicians, the “JVO” is scheduled to perform nearly 30 concerts in 2025, including four scheduled at Myron’s.
Its musicians also devote time to mentoring young musicians teaching jazz language, arranging/composition, band leadership, and musicianship with a primary focus on life skills. From Jazz Outreach Initiative’s “Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra and Combos” to the free “Jammin’ with JOI” summer program and the popular “JOI in Schools” where they work with local middle and high school bands, the Jazz Vegas Orchestra represents the highest level of performance for its audiences while fostering this great American art form for our next generation. Under its former name, JOI Jazz Orchestra, the band received Grammy® consideration for its debut album, “A JOIful NoiZZ” which aired extensively on radio stations, SiriusXM, and streaming services. The album features performances by Wynton Marsalis, Clint Holmes, and Kenny Rampton.
