Two remarkable voices from Spain join the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Vocalist and trombonist Rita Payés impresses with her intimate voice and emotional depth. Her music blends jazz and bossa nova with folk traditions from the Mediterranean. Maripepa Contreras is one of the very few jazz oboists in the world. She merges her Spanish roots with a classical background, a jazz education, and a passion for Brazilian music.
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw ranks among the top European big bands. Under the banner of ‘The Jazz Influencers’, the orchestra has previously invited young creators to compose specially for big band. With Rita and Maripepa as guest soloists, the ensemble continues this tradition: surprising, forward-thinking, and full of infectious joy.
