JAZZ HOUSE KiDS is proud to present our annual program, JAZZ HOUSE Goes to College—a dynamic, day-long event featuring action-packed workshops, insightful panel discussions, and a college fair with top universities from across the nation. This event is a must-attend for high school musicians and their families who are considering studying music and exploring future opportunities.
JAZZ HOUSE Goes to College is part of our Giant Steps: Careers in Music initiative, designed to help the next generation build valuable networks and create pathways for successful careers both on stage and in fields beyond the bandstand.
Event Schedule:
9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Continental Breakfast & Networking
Start your day with a light breakfast and mingle with fellow students, parents, and industry professionals. This is a great opportunity to meet others who share your passion for music.
9:30 AM – 9:45 AM: Welcome and Opening Remarks
Join us for an introduction to the day's events and objectives. Learn what to expect and how to make the most of your experience.
9:45 AM – 10:45 PM: "Careers On the Stage" Panel
- Discover the world of performing arts from seasoned professionals.
- Gain insights on building a successful career on stage.
- Topics include: Performance techniques, touring life, recording processes, and personal branding.
10:45 AM – 11:00 AM: Transition Break
Take a short break to stretch, grab a refreshment, or chat with new acquaintances before the next session begins.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: "Careers Off the Stage" Panel
- Explore behind-the-scenes careers that keep the music industry thriving.
- Learn about opportunities in music production, management, education, and more.
- Hear from experts who have built successful careers off the stage.
12:00 PM – 12:15 PM: Transition to Lunch
Prepare for lunch and make your way to the dining area.
12:15 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch and Careers Networking Mixer
- Enjoy a catered lunch while networking with students, parents, college representatives, and industry professionals.
- Live Music: Experience a live trio performance during lunch.
- Make Connections: Use this time to ask questions and build relationships that could shape your future.
1:00 PM – 1:15 PM: Transition
Get ready for the afternoon sessions. Ensure you have all your materials and are seated for the next panel.
1:15 PM – 2:30 PM: College Panel Discussion
- Meet representatives from top colleges and universities with leading music programs.
- Learn about: Admissions processes, scholarship opportunities, program highlights, and campus life.
- Q&A Session: Get your questions answered directly by college officials.
2:30 PM – 2:45 PM: Transition Break
A short break to prepare for the breakout sessions.
2:45 PM – 3:45 PM: Parent & Student Breakout Sessions
For Parents:
- Engage in a Q&A session with college representatives.
- Topics include: Financial aid, housing, academic support, and how to support your child through the college process.
For Students:
- Interactive session with college alumni.
- Discuss: Student life, audition tips, balancing academics and music, and firsthand experiences in college music programs.
4:00 PM – 4:45 PM: College Fair
- Meet one-on-one with college representatives at their information tables.
- Collect brochures and detailed materials about various music programs.
- Explore and compare different schools to find the best fit for your musical journey.
- Continue conversations from earlier sessions and ask any remaining questions.
4:45 PM – 5:00 PM: Closing Remarks
- Recap the day's highlights and key takeaways.
- Receive information on next steps, application deadlines, and additional resources.
