New York Jazz, Bossa and Soul in Nelson for two nights only!Nelson’s own Tom Rainey is returning home in March to play two concerts with fellow international jazz musicians and Grammy Award Nominees Maggie Gould and Nanny Assis.
The jazz ensemble is performing at The Boathouse on Thursday 12 March at 7pm and Sunday 15 March at 6pm. The band is holding a music workshop on two afternoons – Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March. Fresh from recording her new Album “Grace” in New York, and recording with Maestro Ron Carter, vocalist Maggie Gould says the band is looking forward to providing the audience with an uplifting, energetic concert, with a varied setlist from Stevie Wonder, to Ella to Brazilian classics. Maggie says it’s a privilege to work with Tom Rainey again, fresh from playing at Brookfields with the NZ Symphony Orchestra, and Nanny Assis, who is flying in from playing two sold out nights at New York’s top jazz venue, Dizzy’s, at The Lincoln Centre.
“Nanny is an outstanding vocalist drummer/percussionist and a talented songwriter and composer who has touched hearts and souls through his music. Anybody that sees Nanny perform immediately feels his rhythms and notes, often snatching audiences away, at other times energising them enough to stand up and dance, ‘and sweat until you can’t sweat no more’ to use Bob Marley’s lyric.”
The jazz band is known to bring listeners to their feet, dancing until nightfall.
Tickets are $35 per person and are available now at Eventfinda or by calling 0212759910.
