After a crowd-pleasing and nearly sold-out double bill at the Aster last summer, Jaspar Lepak and Zippy Laske are teaming up again for another special night of music at the Aster!Jaspar Lepak (pronounced JAS-per LEE-pack) writes poetic, feminist folk songs that are “always evocative” (Mostly Minnesota). With a pure voice drawing comparisons to Kate Wolf and Nanci Griffith, her music reflects the many places she’s called home—Tucson, Durban, Seattle, and now Minneapolis. Her 2024 album So Strong debuted at #6 on the Folk Radio Chart, following her 2021 Top 10 release Desert Ghosts. Inspired by Roe’s overturning, personal loss, and motherhood, So Strong is a deeply honest, timely album that’s “comforting and charmingly unpretentious” (89.3 The Current).
Zippy Laske (she/her) is a multi-genre singer/songwriter known for her bright voice and playful melodies. Her pop-oriented EP, Zippy Laske, is out now—bursting with whimsical hooks, shimmering strings, and high-energy synths, brought to life by producer and violinist D.G.S. Sutton (they/them), who will be performing with Zippy at this show. Zippy also regularly contributes music to the popular Twin Cities live podcast Island of Discarded Women at Crooner’s Supper Club, where she and Jaspar first met. https://linktr.ee/zippylaske
