About this Event
Through exuberant performances of groundbreaking repertoire, the Jasmine Quartet (Mira Steenbrugge, Amber Correa, Becca Marr, & Ezra Escobar) brings contemporary classical music into new & unorthodox spaces, reframing the string quartet for the 21st century and advocating passionately for classical music’s most exciting emerging voices. The quartet has collaborated with the foremost emerging composers in the UK, including Molly Frances Arnuk, Deniz Dortok,Margarida Gonçalves, & Luciana Perc.
During the 2024-25 season, the quartet received special commendations in the RCM Contemporary and String Quartet competitions and premiered works byRCM composers at St. James’s Church Piccadilly and the RCM’s Great Exhibitionists concert series. The 25-26 season features premieres of works by UK and USA-based composers Thomas Shorthouse, Zygmund de Somogyi, & James Madrilejo, debuts at Folklore Hoxton, St Mary Abbots Church, Concerts forCharity London & the Albion Orchestra’s Up Close concert series, a performance of Amble Skuse’s Sea Longing for the Royal College of Music Electric Dreams series celebrating Pierre Boulez’s centenary, and an inaugural partnership with the RCM composition faculty mentoring student composers on writing for chamber ensembles.
The Jasmine Quartet has been fortunate to receive guidance and coaching from the Marmen and Ligeti Quartets, Cecily Ward, & Simon Rowland-Jones at theRCM, as well as support from the Hinrichsen Foundation.
