About this Event
JARSQUAD brings people together through communal food-preservation, to practice sharing ingredients, recipes, and know-how by making jams and preserves as a ‘squad’.
We're pleased to be part of 's EAT YOUR PUMPKIN programme of events! Hubbub, an environmental charity, reports that 30 million pumpkins are expected to be bought for carving, of which 16 million won’t be eaten: an equivalent of 95 million meals-worth of pumpkins are set to go to waste!
We're inviting participants to BRING PUMPKIN to cut, prep, and cook with. We'll also have printed recipes to spark your pumpkin cookery so you can take some prepped pumpkin ready to add to a delicious dish.
If you’ve carved your pumpkin, please save any non-moldy, useable pieces in the freezer and bring the frozen pieces in a cool box/bag. We’ll taste some of the ferments we experimented with at our October session, and take turns stirring up our pumpkin jam!
Our Chop & Chat guest will be announced soon!
No experience necessary, just a willingness to get chatting and decorating/painting! and involved with some food prep and cooking. :)
- BRING YOUR PUMPKIN for cutting, prepping, cooking!
- PLEASE LET US KNOW if you have any food allergies or additional needs in advance.
- PLEASE BYO APRON (if you have one - it helps us lots to launder less!), and hair ties and/or caps

A NOTE ON CHOOSING YOUR CONTRIBUTION
JarSquad runs as a solidarity economy and we offer sliding scale fees and free tickets as it is important to us that our events are financially accessible for everyone.
Do offer what you can joyfully and meaningfully give to help us cover things outside our Exchange Rate. These include our overheads, venue costs, and the energy we contribute so we can keep the project going.
We warmly welcome chats about what it means to co-create a gift economy, and how we already participate in alternative and diverse economies here in Plymouth.
We have some free tickets for those who can't otherwise afford to attend. We also have set CONCESSION / STANDARD / SOLIDARITY contributions, as well as SOMETHING IN BETWEEN (Choose-What-You-Give).
We're experimenting with IN-PERSON DONATION tickets for those unaccustomed to making online payments, and would prefer to bring a cash donation on the day.
The statements below may help you assess what to choose:
== Please have a FREE ticket if that's what you need ==
== GIVE £1-£5: If you are on benefits, state pensions, or very low income and with no assets
== GIVE £6-£11: If you earn an income that enables you/your household to meet your basic needs
== GIVE £12-£16 (or more in solidarity): Your offering helps retain one standard place, and one concession place so someone can attend for free.

We're always experimenting with our session times. There's no obligation for you to stay the entire duration but it would be great to have as much of your company as possible.
We're limited to 8 persons per 75 minute slot, and have lots of various jobs that'll need your special touch!

In addition to your ticket contribution, we'd welcome any extra fruit or supplies you'd like to offer/trade using our exchange rate (image below) onsite.
