About this Event
The event will feature a traditional Japanese matcha tea ceremony presented by the Japanese Culture Center of Chicago, with audience volunteers invited to participate. Following the ceremony, guests will have the opportunity to sample matcha tea, Greek coffee, and traditional sweets while learning about the role that rituals, both formal ceremonies and everyday customs, play in preserving cultural identity and community.
We will conclude with a brief conversation examining how shared practices of hospitality, "philoxenia," and customs help preserve heritage across cultures and generations.
Whether experienced through a ceremonial tea gathering or a daily cup of coffee shared with family and friends, rituals connect us to our histories and to one another.
