This year Japan Fest features TIME / LIFE / BEAUTY - A music and dance tribute to Ryuichi Sakamoto - a very special celebration of music pioneer Ryuichi Sakamoto’s musical legacy with Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky (composer, multimedia artist, turntablist, and writer whose work engages audiences in a blend of genres, global culture, and environmental and social issues), Michael Sakamoto (Japanese butoh dancer, interdisciplinary artist and scholar) and Rubin Kodehli (celebrated and genre-transcending cellist from NYC).
The concert will pay tribute to the late Ryuichi Sakamoto’s enduring compositions with the utmost reverence, from the revolutionary Thousand Knives to the iconic and pioneer electronic sounds of the Yellow Magic Orchestra and his Oscar-winning film scores. This year’s Japan Fest will be filled with Sakamoto’s spirit; bringing together our Colorado music, film, and Japanese communities with his legacy.
The festival will also feature a market of local independent artists and vendors, community organizations, and food trucks representing the multi-faceted cultural diaspora of Japan in Colorado!
