This month we celebrate Burns as usual, along with the Scottish Poetry Library at 40 years old, and one of our own new poets.
About this Event

In 2024 the Scottish Poetry Library celebrated their 40th Anniversary with a host of events and poetical fireworks. We look forward to welcoming Kevin Williamson to reflect on last year’s partying and tell us what’s coming up in, maybe, the next 40 years. We’re also delighted to re-introduce one of our good friends who contributed to our first anthology, Lost, Looking & Found. Sadie Maskery, who recently had a new poetry collection, Overheard Lovesongs (Alien Buddha, 2024) will read a few poems and have a chat with us about this.

Being January, we will have our annual homage to The Bard, and with StAnza not far off we’ll look ahead at their Festival and other poetical goings on in our Notes of Interest.

We’ll be at The Outhouse again, and after the drinks reception from 6.30, we’ll livestream the presentation on Zoom at 7pm, lasting around 30 minutes.

How it works...

6.30: Doors Open – reception in the Function Room at the Outhouse

6.50: Open the Zoom meeting (details emailed to all ticket-holders)

7.00: Welcome, and Introduction

7.10: Presentation: S.P.L. at 40, and Sadie Maskery

7.30: Notes of Interest, then mingling and blether!

It is free to register for all of our events.

Sadly this will be the last month we will be able to offer a glass of wine to people on arrival, but we hope to re-continue this tradition in the future.

We ask for donations for the glass of wine, or encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work. If you can’t afford to donate, you are still welcome. Our two anthologies are on sale here, and books will be available to purchase on the night. We look forward to seeing you in person or in the zoom-room.

Accessibility Notice

Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all those with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. All are welcome, and events have free registration. While we aim to hold some events at accessible venues, our regular salon is in an upstairs room at The Outhouse. For this reason, we aim to livestream most events. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open conversation.
