SomoS Arts presents Every Turn of The Sun, the first solo exhibition in Germany by Finnish photographer Janne-Pekka Manninen, opening on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, 6:00–9:00 PM at SomoS Arts, Berlin. The exhibition will remain on view October 15–18, 2025, from 2:00–7:00 PM.
Currently in residence at SomoS, Manninen presents a series of new works created in Berlin with a Pentax 6×7 medium-format camera. Rooted in portraiture and documentary traditions, he slows the act of photographing to a deliberate pace, waiting for gestures, glances, and fragments of the city to coalesce into images that reflect the mutual shaping of people and place.
The series took shape in Berlin’s streets and parks, where Manninen photographed those around him, from friends to chance acquaintances. His portraits and urban scenes situate individuals within the textures of the city, showing how encounters leave their traces on both sitter and environment. In this way, his photographs act not only as records of time and presence but also as reflections on how lives and surroundings intertwine.
The opening reception will include a presentation of the series in dialogue with SomoS Arts, offering visitors an opportunity to hear the artist speak about his methods, influences, and the experiences that shaped the project. Manninen’s Berlin photographs extend his longstanding engagement with intimacy and observation, affirming photography as both documentation and reflection.
