About this Event
Raise Your Hand If You Hear My Voice is for who had the joy of poetry crushed out of them in earlier life. They will often say, ashamed, "I just don't GET poetry." They will get this. Startlingly honest, unafraid to reveal foibles, fierce in witnessing others' lives, this book is deceptively simple in honoring our human journey.
Janice Cummings O'Mahony came to be because her Brooklyn-born Irish Catholic father and Bible Belt farmer mother met in the jumble of WWII. They loved their life together in the Air Force. Because of that, Janice moved twenty times before college, including going to three different high schools. One suitcase per kid, read whatever you want, don't complain, learn to work a room.
She majored in anthropology and chemistry and got a Masters in Social Work. She devoted her professional career to progressive social policy and advocacy for the marginalized.
She was recently elected a Trustee for Humanities Washington. She lives on Whidbey Island where her goal is to make every word count.
