james K erfindet sich neu. Zusammengesetzt aus Knochen, reaktiven Metallen und einem Kehlkopf, mit sommersprossigen Augen, die dieses Gemisch katalysieren – sie kann nun durch alle Masken hindurchsehen. Das ist die Wahrheit. Wenn sie Kaugummi kaut, ist nicht klar, welche ihrer Persönlichkeiten das gerade tut. Seit ihrer ersten Veröffentlichung 2013 ist es mühselig, sie voneinander zu trennen – sie tauschen Rollen, cosplayen sich gegenseitig und würden dich wahrscheinlich in einen einsamen Traum wiegen. Gemeinsam beherrschen sie Produktion, Sound, Film und Schnitt. So treten sie auf, in Clubs und Theatern, neben Komponist*innen und Kindern gleichermaßen, als Performer*innen und DJs. Ihre Musik schafft temporäre Zufluchtsorte für unbeugsame Texte – und diese sind ständig im Wandel.
Während viele DJs Genres und Klangspektren mit Abenteuerlust erkunden, sind nur wenige so vielseitig und einzigartig wie CCL. Mit einem präzise technischen und zugleich verblüffend kreativen Ansatz im Mixing sowie einem unstillbaren Hunger nach Musik aller Art vereint CCL das Unvorstellbare. Als DIY-Festivalveranstaltende*r und Plattensammler*in, geprägt von Erfahrungen in Bristol, der DIY-Szene Seattles und dem amerikanischen Mittleren Westen, zeigt CCL eine besondere Affinität für Fluidität und Liminalität – und verwebt Musik zu eindrucksvollen Erzählungen, die Wurmlöcher zwischen allen Genres und Tempi öffnen.

A version of james K was born. Comprised of bones, reactive metals and a larynx with freckled eyes that catalyzes that mix, she can now see through all the schemes. This is the truth. When she chews gum, it’s not clear which one of her personas does it. Since their first release in 2013, describing them separately is grunt work as they switch places, cosplay each other and would most likely lull you into a lonesome dream. Together, they know how to produce, sound, film and edit. Thus, they are brought to the table, performing and DJing in clubs and theaters, along composers and children alike. She has performed in festivals and venues such as Dekmantel, Sustain Release, Mutek, iii Points, and Nowadays.. In recent years she has shared the stage with James Ferraro, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Yves Tumor, Morton Subotnick, Nick Leon, and Priori, among many others. She produces music that makes temporary haven for indomitable lyrics – and these are in constant flux.
While many DJs approach genre and scope adventurously, few are as expansive and unique as CCL. With an incisively technical and uncannily creative approach to mixing, and a ravenous appetite for music of all kinds, they unite the unimaginable. As a DIY festival organizer and record collector, drawing from their experiences in Bristol, the DIY scene of Seattle and the American Midwest, CCL has a unique affinity for fluidity and liminality, weaving music together through distinct narratives that open wormholes between all genres and tempos.
