Victor Valqui Vidal looks at Denmark with his Peruvian gaze.I was born in Lima. I travel to Europe (Belgium and France) to study. I ended in Horsens, Denmark. I continue my studies at The Technical University of Denmark where I ended working as a researcher and teacher for 40 years.
Living in Denmark I was surprised that many Danish vegetables, objects, and people original are from Peru.
This performance will focus on my discoveries about Peru representation in Denmark from potatoes to the book of Guaman Poma de Ayala.
RSS press has recently published the book PERUANER – fra Peru til DTU (in Danish). The story told in this book can be characterised as a series of different kinds of migration, or as a metaphor for the topic.
I migrated from a proletarian background in the slums of the metropolis to a life at the university and in the academic world.
My academic career took me on a journey to Europe in the second half of the 60s, a time of great social upheaval. In Europe I met the prejudice that a brown person from a less developed country couldn’t possibly know very much about the new fields of computing, maths, and computer science. But it is also the story of how I in Denmark was received with a moving openmindedness by a family from Horsens, whose one daughter would become my girlfriend and later my wife. Later, Valqui Vidal went through an intellectual development which can also be called a migration.
First from mathematics to the social sciences, then from the social sciences to his own creative process, which includes collective creativity and social engagement in art and poetry"
