About this Event

Ithell Colquhoun was an important figure in British surrealism during 1930s and 40s. She was one of the most radical artists of her generation, an innovative writer, and a practicing occultist. With explorations of feminine power, personal fulfilment and societal transformation, Colquhoun’s art shows her understanding of the world as a spiritual cosmos. Featuring over 200 of her works, this exhibition traces Colquhoun’s evolution as an artist – from her early work as a student to her engagement with the intertwined ideas of sexual identity, ecology and occultism. This exhibition urges audiences to travel through Colquhoun’s writings, drawings, paintings, early theatre projects and mural designs – many of which never seen before – culminating in a room dedicated to her most accomplished artistic rendition of a Tarot deck.

The lecture by Dr Frankie Dytor will prepare you for the exhibition so that you can make the most of your time in the gallery and gain the greatest insight into the works. Please join us for lunch afterwards at Osteria Dell’Angolo.
