Trumpeter from Brooklyn fuses traditions, from Arabic to Sephardic music from his native Israel.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Trumpeter Itamar Borochov is part of the new generation of Israeli jazz musicians making waves in New York. He grew up in Jaffa, hybrid of Jewish, Arabic and Christian cultures. His musical influences are equally diverse, from Edith Piaf to Weather Report and from Prince to Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan, and his trumpet sound reveals that he has taken cue from vocal styles.
His main influence remains the synagogue music from his youth. Like John Coltrane and Lee Morgan, who went back to gospel, Itamar Borochov goes back to the centuries-old Sephardic spiritual tradition. At the BIMHUIS, the Itamar Borochov Quartet will give a taste of their upcoming album ‘Glow’, which will be recorded in the week prior to the concert.
