“Life is the root, Art is the flower.” – Isadora Duncan
On Saturday, May 2, 2026, the Isadora Duncan International Institute premieres Heaven in a Wildflower at the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in Poughkeepsie, NY—a site-responsive dance-theater celebration of renewal, devotion, and the blossoming of creative spirit along the Hudson River.
Evolving from the earlier AMH-supported production Isadora Duncan in the Theater of Love and War, this new work turns from themes of exile toward the radiant forces of growth and becoming. In the spirit of May—season of fertility, rebirth, and luminous promise—it reflects Duncan’s profound kinship with nature. For her, the earth was not backdrop but living presence; not scenery but soul-force. Her “art of natural dancing” awakened breath, instinct, and the sacred rapport between body and landscape.
Drawing upon Duncan’s signature synthesis of music and movement, the evening unfolds through original choreographies inspired by garden paths, mythic winds, youthful ardor, and the cyclical flowering of life itself. Music by Debussy, Chopin, Grieg, Mozart, Brahms, Bruch, Scriabin, and Borodin accompanies a sweeping arc of human experience—from budding innocence to tempest and return, from radiant youth to tender remembrance.
Heaven in a Wildflower invites audiences into a world where dance becomes landscape, where music breathes through the body, and where spring’s eternal promise rises—petal by petal—into motion.
