About this Event

Speakers: Aaron Walck, Associate Attorney

Speaker Qualifications:

Aaron Walck has experience working with humanitarian, business, and family-based immigration applications, including U and T visas, asylum applications, PERM labor certifications, as well as H-1B, L-1, and O-1 temporary work visa applications. Aaron has worked with Helen Tarokic Law PLLC since December 2020 and joined full-time as an Associate Attorney in September 2021.

Aaron was born and raised in Pennsylvania and graduated cum laude from Tufts University with a dual degree in International Relations and Spanish. As a student, Aaron gained experience as a journalist and spent time learning Spanish with immersion programs in Quito, Ecuador, and Santiago, Chile. After graduating from college, Aaron spent three years working as a business immigration paralegal, where he gained experience preparing a variety of employment-based visas. Aaron moved to North Carolina to attend the Wake Forest University School of Law. He was a member of the Trial Bar, Moot Court, and an Executive Editor with Wake Forest’s Journal of Law & Policy. Aaron was also a Pro Bono Honor Society member and served as a project coordinator for the Migrant Detention Center Pro Bono Project. With this organization, Aaron volunteered at the detention center in Dilley, Texas, where he helped incarcerated noncitizens prepare for credible fear interviews and access legal representation. Aaron also connected this project to nonprofits like RAICES, giving fellow Wake Forest Law students opportunities to work on asylum applications. Aaron graduated in 2021 in the top 30% of his class.

During this time:

• What fact pattern may qualify an individual to apply for T visa status

• What might make a case for a T visa more difficult?

• If this is a more difficult case, are there tips for improving the case strategy, tips for what types of evidence may be helpful, and tips for reporting to law enforcement for that fact pattern?

• This is a fact intensive UNRECORDED live Zoom training – bring your questions and there should be time to go in depth on at least 2 specific hypotheticals proposed by audience members, using the rubric for analyzing T visa eligibility

• If we happen to go over time in the discussion, additional CLE credit not provided (just consider it fun extra info!)

For this event, it’s okay for lawyers and their paralegals to attend

• NC CLE credit will be requested since the organizer is based in North Carolina

• Attorneys licensed outside of NC can attend. A certificate of attendance will be provided upon request for those who need proof of attendance.

• Attorney-supervised paralegals may attend for educational purposes.

• Attorney-supervised means the paralegal must be employed by a licensed attorney and under regular supervision to prevent the unauthorized practice of law.

• Attorneys signing up paralegals take responsibility for their employee’s registration fees and participation in the program and agree to pay full and fair wages for time the paralegal trains in the seminar as part of work hours/on-the-job training.
