In conversation with Sanjoy Roy (Founder, Jaipur Literature Festival) on whether Indian literature is relevant in the West today.
About this Event

In partnership with LID Publishing and The Mohua Show, we are be hosting a session with Sanjoy Roy (Founder, Jaipur Literature Festival) and other guests exploring this topic.

Literature and literary scholarship from India, though sometimes unacknowledged, could be said to be at the forefront of revitalising interest in the idea of moving beyond “world literature” in bookshops (which might stress global circulation, transcultural reading practices, broad structural patterns, and often unexpected connections among books and readers) to more readily identified “Indian literature”.

Sanjoy Roy, an entrepreneur of the arts, is the Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, produces over 33 highly acclaimed performing arts, visual arts and literary festivals in 40 cities across the world including the iconic annual Jaipur Literature Festival, international editions of JLF and the launched-during-lockdown digital JLF Brave New World series.

He is a founder trustee of Salaam Baalak Trust, providing support services for street and working children in Delhi. He is also the founder Trustee of the Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust. Roy works closely with various industry bodies and the government on policy issues in the cultural sector in India, and has lectured and collaborated with leading international universities. He established Teamwork in 1989, a highly versatile production house with wide ranging interests in the performing and visual arts, social sector and films and television.

He will be in conversation with Mohua Chinappa, an author, podcaster, voice-over artist and branding specialist. She hosts The Mohua Show, which now has over a million downloads. She interviews artists, entrepreneurs and individuals who are striving to create economic and social change ‘imandari se’.

In her earlier stint as the national head of GCI, the public relations division of The Grey Worldwide Advertising Group, she has been responsible for bringing in business and creating campaigns for the largest brands in India and the international market. With her rich experience in other communications firms like Brandcomm, HCL, ITC and Genesis PR, she has led teams towards successful brand campaigns.

Other speakers to follow shortly.

The session will be in a relaxed Q&A format. Teas, coffees and soft drinks will be served. There is a bar available for alcoholic drinks purchase.
