About the Play
Called “Genius” and “Wonderful” by Los Angeles critics, Irish Goodbye - Is the first installment of Mr. Dugan’s critically acclaimed Jersey Pub Trilogy.
In a small New Jersey pub, across the train tracks from the back Saint Gertrude’s Catholic Cemetery, a disgraced cop and ex - beauty queen take shelter from a frigid storm, forming an unlikely bond one lonely Christmas Eve…. oh, and it’s also funny.
About the Playwright
Dubbed a “national treasure” by critics and honored with numerous awards and nominations, including the New York Drama Desk and New York Outer Critics Circle, Tom Dugan is a Los Angeles - based playwright best known for his meticulously researched historical one-person plays exploring iconic figures such as Jackie Kennedy, Robert E. Lee, and Mary Lincoln.
His acclaimed solo works have been translated into several languages and produced throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Israel, India, Australia, Italy, Scotland, and London.
Frederick Douglass: In the Shadow of Slavery, starring Broadway’s Mel Johnson, and Tevye in New York! continue to tour nationally, as does his most popular work, Wiesenthal, now available through Next Stage Press. Wiesenthal, the celebrated one-man play about famed Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal, was described by The New York Times as “heartbreaking and beautiful.” It was produced Off-Broadway by Daryl Roth and later featured on PBS. A feature-film adaptation of Wiesenthal, produced by Golden River Entertainment, is scheduled to begin shooting in Europe later this year.
Tom’s recent critical successes, Cemetery Pub and Irish Goodbye (available through Next Stage Press), premiered in Los Angeles at the Alliance Repertory Company and have since received regional productions. His upcoming dark comedy 13 Coffins, set to premiere in Los Angeles in 2027, will complete his Jersey Pub Trilogy. His one-woman psychological thriller, The Ghosts of Mary Lincoln - called “spellbinding” by the Los Angeles Times - will be published later this year.
About the Moderator
Mel Johnson has enjoyed a distinguished career on Broadway, most recently appearing in the musical revivals of Kiss Me, Kate and Jekyll & Hyde. His Broadway credits also include Hot Feet (featuring the music of Earth, Wind & Fire), The Lion King (as Mufasa), Bob Fosse’s Big Deal, The Rink starring Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera, Eubie!, and On the Twentieth Century.
Mr. Johnson currently tours the nation starring in his acclaimed one-man show Frederick Douglass: In the Shadow of Slavery, written and directed by Tom Dugan.
On screen, Mel is widely recognized for co-starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger as Benny in Total Recall. He can also be seen co-starring this year in the AMC series The Terror: Devil in Silver.
About the Performer
Anica [Ah-nee-tsa] Petrovic is a multi–award-winning actress who has appeared in more than a dozen productions throughout Los Angeles. A recipient of the coveted Breakout Performer of the Year Award, Anica’s recent successes include starring as the wildly trashy, grown-up Cindy Lou Who (of Grinch fame) in Matthew Lombardo’s satire Who’s Holiday! at Hollywood’s Hobgoblin Playhouse; the aggressive and morally ambiguous Diana in Network at The Group Rep; and the irrepressible suffragette Alice Paul in the original production of All These Women at Beverly Hills’ Theatre 40.
Anica originated the role of Sandy in The Alliance Repertory Company’s premiere production of Tom Dugan’s dark comedy Irish Goodbye. She is represented by The Brogan Agency in Los Angeles. Instagram: @anicapetrovic
