London Metropolitan University’s Interdisciplinary Research Forum, Centre for Global Diversity and Inequality, CREATURE and CUBE invite you to a symposium on:
Power of Performance: Laughter, Carnival and the Reversal of Order
The Symposium will address the carnivalesque and transgressive elements of popular and political performances from an interdisciplinary perspective of politics and International relations, criminology, performance studies and architecture.
Among the topics are: populism and transgression, laughter and the carnivalesque in state and popular performances, performing sovereignty, and identity and difference in civic culture.
The speakers will include Prof. Christian Frost and Dr Jacek Ludwig Scarso (School of Architecture and Design), Dr Angelos Cryssogelos and Prof. Svetlana Stephenson (School of Social Sciences and Professions), Dr Theo Aiolfi (University of Cergy-Pontoise, Paris) and Prof. Simon Hallsworth (University of Brighton).
Session format: This is will be an in-person event delivered at the Holloway campus, but there will be also an option to join remotely.
