Decorah Public Library is hosting a free program about Iowa Civil Rights presented by staff from the Iowa Office of Civil Rights on March 23 at 5:30 PM. The presentation will take place in the library’s mezzanine. The Iowa Office of Civil Rights is the state agency that works to provide impartial, efficient, and fact-driven investigative analyses of discrimination complaints filed in Iowa and promote civil rights outreach and education opportunities throughout the state. This program will provide an overview of Iowan’s civil rights and help educate what the Office of Civil Rights does for everyday Iowans.
The program will be presented by Rose Cooney, the IOCR Education and Outreach Coordinator. Rose joined the Iowa Office of Civil Rights in April and is leading the effort to expand and elevate education programs and outreach initiatives across the state. They have a background in nonprofit community engagement, higher education, and community organizing. Rose will be providing an overview of what the Iowa Office of Civil Rights does, how they serve Iowans, and an overview of their complaint process.
This event was originally scheduled for December, but was postponed due to weather.
