Who should attend?
Have you heard the term "invasive" and wanted to learn more? Are you curious about what makes an animal invasive and why it's a problem? This event is for you!
This community lecture and discussion is open to and appropriate for all community members and leaders.
What will I learn if I attend?
Participants will get an overview of basic vocabulary around this hot topic, an introduction to several invasive wildlife species and what to do if you come across one of these species!
The focus will be on invasive reptiles, proper identification, and differentiating them from our native Florida species.
Vocabulary that will be discussed:
- native species
- nonnative species
- invasive species
Species that will be highlighted:
- iguanas and other large lizards
- burmese python and other large snakes
- cane toads (toxic to pets)
- Cuban treefrogs
- a few invasive plants and other wildlife
Please note there will be respectful discussion of euthanasia as a part of this discussion.
