Shaykh Nuh Saunders
Shaykh Nuh Saunders was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the grandson of converts to Islam who ensured that he grew up with a deep love for his faith.
As an aspiring student of knowledge, he began his studies in Arabic and Quranic studies at the Quba Institute in Philadelphia. He then embarked on an in-depth study of Aqidah and Dawah with Shaykh Abdur Rahman Sondalani privately. During this period, he had the privilege of studying Shafi Fiqh with Imam Muhammad Amin of Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Following the advice of Imam Amin and many others, Shaykh Nuh traveled to the Islamic world to further his pursuit of knowledge. His journey initially took him to Egypt, where he had the opportunity to study Arabic grammar and Tajweed with scholars from Al Azhar University. He then moved to Tarim, Yemen, to enroll in the renowned Dar Al Mustafa Islamic Seminary, where he studied various Islamic sciences, including fiqh, hadith, seerah, and tassawuf.
After his time in Tarim, Shaykh Nuh sought permission from Habib Umar to study in Beirut, Lebanon. There, he was privileged to study privately with esteemed Quran reciters such as Shaykh Bashar al Riz, a prominent reciter from Damascus and a direct student of Abul Hassan al Kurdi. He memorized the main text in the science of Tajweed and received ijazah.
Following his studies in Lebanon, Shaykh Nuh traveled to Turkey, where he met the Hanbali mufti of Ghuta, Shaykh Muhammad Rashid, and studied Hanbali fiqh under his guidance. After almost a year in Turkey, Allah opened the doors for him to move to Madinah al-Munawwarah. He currently resides in Madinah, where he continues to study traditional Hanbali fiqh and Aqidah. He also makes frequent trips to Jordan to study logic and Ilm al-Kalam with the students of Shaykh Sa’eed Fouda.
