Join us for this enriching beginner's class where you'll delve into the enchanting artistry of this iconic instrument. Here you can start your journey into the world of the sitar with Dr. Anand Kumar Mishra, a distinguished sitarist and Indian composer hailing from Varanasi, India. During this session you'll be introduced to the fundamental techniques of playing the sitar. Whether you're completely new to the instrument or looking to deepen your understanding of Indian music, this class offers an immersive experience for all levels of learners.
Dr. Anand Kumar Mishra brings his expertise and passion for the sitar to guide you through the intricacies of this beautiful instrument. With a maximum of six participants per session, you'll have the opportunity for personalized instruction and guidance.
The session begins with an exploration of the sitting position, followed by simple compositions and basic tuning with the instruments. As you embark on your sitar journey, you may find moments of challenge, especially when attempting intricate techniques like Meend, where you'll bend up to five notes on a single fret!

Anand Ji is a very renowned Sitar player in India and travels throughout India and the world giving Sitar recitals. His father was one of the most famous tabla players of his era. Their family is the centre of Varanasi music culture, the Benares Gharana. (A school of music that came out of the courts of the Maharaja's, the kings of old pre colonized India. Both Annu and Anand have fascinating histories to explain.
