In een hoefijzervormige opstelling zit de zevenkoppige Dutch Mountain Tribe, geleid door houtblazer en componist Koen Boeijinga. Dit collectief bestaat uit zowel jonge pioniers als doorgewinterde virtuozen uit de Nederlandse improvisatiescene. Ze verenigen hun diverse achtergronden (Nederland, Italië, Turkije, Spanje en de VS) in een weefsel van eigenzinnige melodieën, bedwelmende ritmes en vurige improvisaties. Hun muziek roept de verbeelding op van volksliederen uit een mythisch Nederlands berglandschap. Het collectief beschikt over een uitgebreid arsenaal aan percussie-instrumenten, fluiten, doedelzakken en andere voorwerpen uit de immense collectie van Koen.

Woodwind player, composer and improviser Koen Boeijinga presents his brand-new project Dutch Mountain Tribe. This seven-person collective consists of both young pioneers and established virtuosos from the Dutch improvisation scene. They unite their diverse backgrounds (Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, Spain and the US) in a fabric of idiosyncratic melodies, enchanting rhythms and fiery improvisations. Their music evokes folk songs from a mythical Dutch mountain landscape. The collective has an extensive arsenal of percussion instruments, flutes, bagpipes and other objects from Koen’s immense collection.
