About this Event
Seaweeds are an incredibly important part of the marine environment, provide us with food and other products, and come in a wonderful variety of shapes, sizes, colours and forms. Take part in this introductory session to learn all about this fascinating group of organisms, identify common species and turn them in beautiful art!
Fold out FSC identification chart included with your ticket.
General
Event suitable for ages 14+. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. No former experience required.
Location
This event will take place in the Scottish Seabird Centre's Learning Hub (building opposite the main centre) and nearby beach (weather dependent).

Trays, buckets, identification materials and alcohol hand-gel for the outdoor section. A full health and safety briefing will take place before heading to the shore and members of the team will be on hand throughout to provide information and help participants find and identify species. All materials needed to turn your seaweed into art will be provided. A FSC fold out chart is also yours to take away!
What do you need to bring?
For the outdoor part of the session, we recommend sturdy boots or shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather outside and any Medic*tion you may need.
Accessibility
The outdoor part of the session includes time on the shore with some gentle slopes, uneven sand, rocky ground and slippy surfaces which, unfortunately, is unsuitable for wheelchair users. However, we are happy to adjust plans where possible. Please let us know in advance if you have questions or concerns. You can direct queries to charlottef@seabird.org.
Additional info
Please note: Whilst the session will cover species identification tips, it is not a foraging course. No seaweed will be collected for consumption purposes
