About this Event
Making use of the low tide, we’ll explore the rock pools of beautiful Seacliff beach, overlooked by Tantallon castle, to forage for an array of my favourite seaweeds. This is the perfect time of year for sea vegetable foraging, the growths are lush and new and the spring neap tides provide opportunity to forage species that are further down the tide line and are normally submerged. We’ll discuss foraging safety, laws, and ethics, as well as nutritional importance and preparation suggestions. We’ll also look at some of the edibles growing along the shore, and finish the course with a picnic of wild edible sea and shore springtime foods. This is a three hour course, including a picnic to sample wild foods and drinks, foraging instruction, preparation suggestions, and scrabbling about on slippery and jagged rocks to learn about and then to harvest your own seaweeds.
Please bring scissors and containers, dress appropriately to spend a few hours at the coast and wear sturdy waterproof shoes with a good grip.
Since this course includes food samples, please let me know of dietary restrictions ahead of time.
