Introduction to Pattern Making: Collars and sleeves

Throughout the course, you’ll explore the captivating process of creating ½-scale variations from a basic block. You'll have the opportunity to learn and experiment with a variety of styles, such as:

• Peter Pan collar
• Classic shirt collar
• Pussy bow
• Rever collar
• Gathered sleeve
• Sleeve with pleats and a cuff
• Bell sleeve

Whether you’re a beginner striving to expand your abilities or an experienced sewist looking to refine your craft, this workshop is thoughtfully designed to be both informative and inspiring.

What You’ll Learn:

Introduction to Pattern Making

• What is a pattern?
• Essential tools of the trade
• Understanding pattern anatomy

Pattern adaptions

• What is a block, and why is it important?
• Learn to create various collars and sleeve adaptations in ½ scale
• How to properly label and mark individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches
• If time permits, create a toile to test your pattern
• Please bring appropriate woven fabric for your toile

• Paper and fabric scissors
• Tape measure
• Mechanical pencil (HB 0.5) or pencils 2H
• Eraser and pencil sharpener
• Glue sticks
• Around 1 metre of lightweight woven fabric
• Dress-making pins
