About this Event
Our classes offer a hands-on introduction to letterpress and are an ideal opportunity for anyone who would like to acquire a practical knowledge of this craft at a beginners level.
Participants experience the entire process, from composition (hand-setting, spacing and locking-up type) to printing (inking and pulling the press). Access to our library of over 800 wood and metal fonts is open and everyone leaves with a printed example of their work.
Group size is set to a maximum of four people and we begin with an introduction to the workshop, browsing our huge pile of type specimen cards. Thereafter we help each person to produce their own work independently. We don't prescibe what you print – it could be a comanding woodtype poster or a delicate metal type poem. Please come with ideas and we will help you realise them.
All materials are provided but please wear old clothes or bring an apron. A 'printer's lunch' is provided, please let us know if you have any dietry requirements.
Covid-19
If you, or anyone you have been in contact with, is feeling unwell we ask you not to attend the class. We will try to transfer your ticket to a future date where possible.
Please be aware that our workshop is a confined space and class participants are likely to be in close proximity to one and other, handling objects and touching shared surfaces.
