About this Event

Kendo is a modern martial art rooted in the classical Japanese swordsmanship of the samurai. It is based on centuries-old traditions and the Bushido code, emphasizing values such as bravery, honesty, and integrity. Practitioners train with a lightweight, split-bamboo sword called a shinai and, eventually, protective armor known as bogu. The practice begins with learning precise footwork and swinging techniques before progressing to full-contact drills under the guidance of experienced seniors. Over time, students develop not only physical skills like agility, posture, and quickness but also mental qualities such as concentration, clarity of thought, and calm under pressure.

Kendo training focuses on self-discipline and mental and physical fitness rather than on practical self-defense. The art evolves gradually from controlled basic movements to dynamic, free practice, culminating in competitive tournaments. Its ranking system, while similar to other martial arts, does not rely on colored belts or overt signs of rank. Many practitioners find that kendo builds character, relieves stress, and instills a lifelong sense of responsibility and commitment. Ultimately, kendo is an art for those seeking to strengthen both body and spirit, embodying the enduring legacy of Japan’s warrior tradition.

There is minimum of 5 participants.
