About Hays: Hays Woods Park is an urban forest consisting of 626 acres of undeveloped woodlands, meadows, steep creek glens and bluffs overlooking the Monongahela. It boasts almost 14 miles of low use legacy trails which are great for hiking, mountain biking, dog walking and bird watching.
About the hikes: Mileage will range from 1.5-3.0 miles depending on the conditions that day. Expect around 250 feet elevation change. Aproximately half of our hike will be on steeper single track terrain. Themes include:
April- Navigation and overlooks
May- Wildlife watching (binoculars provided )
June- Foraging and plant ID
When: Hikes will take place first Fridays (9-11AM) and third Thrursdays (6-7:30PM) April through June.
Where: Agnew Road Trailhead. The closest residential adress is: 1015 Agnew Road, Pittsburgh PA 15227. There is a gravel parking lot at the end of Agnew Road just past this address.
What to bring: Water and sunscreen are a good start. Closed toes shoes, long pants, and bugspray are reccomended for those concerned about tics and mud. Dogs are welcome, on leash.
