A relaxed introduction to handweaving on a simple loom.Join Ellie Fisher from Elka Textiles for a full-day frame loom weaving (aka tapestry weaving) workshop at Seeded, the Aladdin’s cave of creativity in Southsea, Hampshire.
Frame weaving is a simple, meditative way to explore texture, pattern and colour. You’ll create a small woven artwork using natural materials and discover how accessible — and addictive — this traditional craft can be.
Across six hours of guided tuition, Ellie (a weaver with over 20 years’ experience) will guide you through selecting yarns, planning your warp, setting up your loom and exploring techniques for creating texture and pattern.
All materials are provided, including organic cotton, bamboo, flax and hemp fibres, plus clear printed handouts to take home. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available throughout the day.
For lunches, there are numerous small independent cafés and restaurants near the shop, plus a Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco all within easy walking distance. Please bring a packed lunch if you prefer.
Spaces are limited to keep the group small and hands-on, so early booking is recommended.
Co-hosted with Seeded — Southsea’s vibrant hub for makers, creatives and crafters.
