About this Event
Join painter Jane Michalski for an introduction to encaustic painting, a versatile wax-based medium known for its vibrant, translucent color and unique surface qualities. This presentation will provide an overview of the essential materials and foundational techniques used in encaustic art.
Michalski will discuss her artistic practice and demonstrate several of the processes she uses to build layered, luminous compositions. Attendees will gain insight into how encaustic painting combines pigment, molten wax, and heat to create richly textured and enduring works.
Handouts will be provided, including material resource lists and contact information for artists and educators specializing in encaustic techniques.
Jane Michalski has worked with encaustic for over 20 years and has exhibited widely throughout the Midwest. Her solo exhibitions include The Union League Club of Chicago, South Shore Arts Crown Point Gallery, First Free Church of Chicago Sanctuary, Monroe Arts Center in Wisconsin, and The Pump House Regional Arts Center. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and is a former President and Treasurer of FUSEDChicago, an organization supporting encaustic artists in the Chicago region.
This program is ideal for artists, students, and anyone interested in learning about encaustic painting and contemporary materials-based practices.
