Curious about Eye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy?

This training presents an introduction to EMDR Therapy and its history, the trauma-informed framework, the mechanism of change in EMDR Therapy, the AIP model, and the eight phases of EMDR Therapy.

Join Curt Rouanzoin, PhD, and Michelle Gottlieb, PsyD in an exploration of the basic components of EMDR Therapy, along with its theories and efficacy. Participants will be introduced to the trauma-informed framework of this therapy and the variety of populations and diagnoses in which it can be used.

2 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATS , NYS Licensed Psychologists and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:

-identify the official definition of EMDR therapy.

-recall the history of the development of EMDR therapy.

-explain the mechanism of change in EMDR.

-describe the main components of the AIP model.

-describe at least three ways in which trauma affects emotions and behavior.

-describe the three prongs and eight phases of EMDR therapy.

-describe a trauma-informed framework to identify those clients who would benefit from EMDR therapy along with DEI considerations.

In accordance with the NY State Department of Education guidelines, in order to receive continuing education contact hours, a participant needs to be present for the duration of the workshop/training. Therefore, participants who arrive late or leave the event early will not be granted a certificate of completion.

About The Presenters:

As Co-Founder, President and CEO of EMDR Professional Training, Michelle Gottlieb,PsyD, MFT, LPCC, is an experienced clinician with over 30 years of clinical experience.Dr. Gottlieb is EMDR Certified, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and an EMDRIA Approved Trainer. After years of working in crisis intervention and therapy for families, individuals, and children, Dr. Gottlieb discovered EMDR in 2000. She soon completed EMDR Certificationand began using EMDR therapy within her practice. The rapid and positive results she saw with her clients created an urgency to go further with EMDR and her own education. Dr. Gottlieb has facilitated for EMDRHAP/Trauma Recovery and the EMDR Institute and has been a Part One trainer for EMDR HAP/Trauma Recovery.Dr. Gottlieb is also an international presenter on various aspects of EMDR therapy,including the EMDRIA conference, EMDR Canada, and, most recently,EMDR Asia. Dr. Gottlieb’s private practice is in Fullerton,California, where she specializes in complex trauma and chronicpain/illness. She is also in her twelfth year as adjunct facultyin the Graduate program for the Department of Psychology at Cal State University, Fullerton.

Curtis Rouanzoin, PhD, was trained by Francine Shapiro in EMDR in 1991/1992. Heworked with the EMDR Institute as a Facilitator (1992) and Senior Trainer until 2017. With the inception of EMDR Professional Training in 2018, his 30 years of work in EMDR therapy has led to developingthe highest quality EMDR Basic Training as well as Advanced Trainings in Complex PTSD and Dissociation. Dr. Rouanzoin is Co-Founder, President Emeritus, and Director of Training at EMDR Professional Training. Dr. Rouanzoin is EMDR Certified, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and an EMDRIA Approved Trainer. He has trained mental health practitioners in EMDR both nationally and internationally. Dr. Rouanzoin traveled with Dr. Shapiro to Columbia on a Congress Against Violence to pave the way for future EMDR training. He also traveled to Japan with Dr. Andrew Leeds to train the first groups of clinicians there. While at Hope International Universityin Fullerton, CA, where he taught for 22 years,he developed the Marriage and Family Therapy Program and created the first university graduate-levelcourse in EMDR (1995).
