Board service can be an immensely satisfying undertaking. While passion and commitment often lead people to serve on nonprofit boards, having the technical skills to be effective is critical to helping an organization succeed.
This three-hour session is designed for people interested in board service or those looking to strengthen and refresh their knowledge and skills, as well as to help executive directors more effectively work with their boards.
Following the session, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the core functions, legal, and other responsibilities of a nonprofit board of directors.
- Understand board governance and how boards are structured.
- Identify common challenges and related strategies facing nonprofit boards.

Mandy Sharp Eizinger, M.S., is a program manager at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy. In this role, she supports sector-wide learning and professional development programs.
