Intro to Woodblock Printmaking.
Have you wanted to make a woodblock printing but didn’t know where to start?
This workshop is designed for compete beginners where the goal is take your own A5 sized image and create a wearable piece of art using woodblock printing methods.
Local printmaker artist Levon Parker will guide you through the process creating a woodblock print using a variety of cutting techniques and exploring a range of mark making and textures that can be achieved.
You’ll start by transferring your own design onto a piece of board and learn how to safely use the tools to carve your design. You will then ink up the block using Speedball’s non-toxic fabric ink that is solvent free and easy to clean up. From there make a “proof print” and make refinements to your block if necessary before using a press or hand burnishing your design onto your T-shirt.
A hand-out sheet with a full materials list, with tips and tricks and where to purchase supplies will be provided so you can continue this exciting process at home with your new woodblock.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING
*A design to fit an A5 sized block. Please consider the time frame available - large “black” areas will require less time to carve and fine “black” lines will require more time to carve. The more detailed image the longer it will take to carve. Also large areas of empty/non printable areas will take longer to carve away.
*Cotton T-shirts you want to print onto - Ideally 2x prints per person to be completed. More if you have time…
*Aprons and clothing you don’t mind potentially getting ink onto.
*Any reference images and drawing equipment you might want to bring along.
