About this Event
Intro to Soft Pastels
Learn how to use soft pastels to create realistic landscapes. Participants will explore the use of soft pastels (which are like chalk but are high quality with intense color and coverage) to learn how to work with them. Techniques will include applying color to the paper, blending color, creating fine lines for detail, and erasing/softening areas. No drawing experience?... No problem! I introduce you to pastel by doing several projects. As a warm up, you will learn how to shade a sunset sky. You will also learn how to create the illusion of water, including the ocean, a pond, and a meandering creek. You will also be shown how to "paint" landforms and details. You will have some time to experiment and practice, before starting your own final 11x14” pastel landscape that is 100% your own unique creation. Sample pic is just one of the many ways you can complete your landscape. Cost of class is 75.00 and includes a set of 24 soft pastels, a 9x12 (16 sheet) pastel paper, and a kneaded eraser that you will take home.
Meet the Artist
Tanya Haller
I have taught all levels of art for 25 years, in a variety of school settings. I have taught Native American children in South Dakota, public and private school children in grades K-12, and children at the IU. I have my Masters in Art Ed and have experience teaching both children and adults with special needs. I also have experience with teaching “Paint nights”, private art instruction, and kids Christmas and summer art camps. I love creating things and thinking “outside the box”. When I teach a class, whether it be in the standard classroom, a paint night, or a child’s birthday party, I have the same approach…. Teach how to do the technique and then let the students/participants use the technique to create their own unique project.
